It creates real files. Anthropic's support doc says Claude can create Excel spreadsheets (.xlsx), PowerPoint presentations (.pptx), Word documents (.docx), and PDF files. You get a download button and open the file in the normal app. An .xlsx comes back with working formulas that recalculate like any spreadsheet you built yourself.
