Turn 'can you just add this' into a paid change request
Clients rarely argue with a calm one-pager that shows the cost and the new date side by side.

The prompt that gets copied
A client asked for something outside our agreed scope. Our original scope: [ORIGINAL SCOPE SUMMARY]. Their new request, in their words: [CLIENT REQUEST]. My rate or price for extras: [YOUR RATE, e.g. $150 an hour]. Please do two things. First, write a warm, short email reply that thanks them, says yes to helping, and explains this sits outside the current scope, without sounding defensive. Second, draft a one-page change request with: a plain description of the change, why it's outside the original scope, the impact on the timeline and other deliverables, the added cost with a simple breakdown, any risks of not doing it, and an approval line with name, date and signature. If the request is small enough that I might do it as a goodwill gesture, say so and suggest how to mention that it's a one-time courtesy.
Paste your original scope and the client's new ask. You get a warm reply that says yes to helping, plus a one-page change request with impact, cost, timeline and an approval line.
Step by step
- Paste a short summary of the agreed scope and the client's request.
- Add your rate or the price for the extra work.
- Edit the reply so it sounds like you.
- Send the change request and start only after it's approved.
What you'll get
A short, friendly email reply and a one-page change request covering what changes, why it's extra, timeline impact, cost and sign-off.
